cliffe fort, kent

cliffe fort, kent
1890 torpedo launch slipway next to cliffe fort, the first example of a guided missile system in the world controlled from the roof of the fort to attack ships in the river estuary. the torpedo was powered and guided by two long rotating wires attached to its propellers, which sounds rather heath robinson to me but apparently worked well enough to be state of the art for about 30 years.
