the early c16 brick of the tower and porch glow in winter sunlight, finding an echo in the late c11 walls which contain much roman tile. the church sits beside the village green, only the noise of traffic on the a12 reminding you of chelmsford nearby. the brick dome on top of the tower just peeps over the battlements
