the tower and spire of e.m. barry's 1855 church were part of the original design, though not built until 1864. the upper stages show the increased muscularity of high victorian work. even though public money has helped restore this church, access is limited. all too often the recipients of our money resent having to allow us in: most either keep quiet about access, or only allow it mid week when people are at work. this is immoral in my book.
