north transept vault of the mid c13,this boss having been carved in situ later with this green beast spewing oak foliage. i think that this is the first mad cow green man i've seen. there is a similar one in wood in the crossing which probably dates from cottingham's 1825 restoration: whether this one is really mediaeval i don't know, it certainly looks a lot later than c13
