Behold

Soundtrack by SinQ (Sander van Oirschot): soundcloud.com/sinq/from-small

The Sunday Challenge was to photograph garbage, and make art out of it. I first tried to approach the topic using my 'garbage season' theme, but then I started to think, it does not "glorify" the garbage enough. I went for a long walk this morning, catch cold and some pictures, and at home I recalled another idea of mine.

Not sure how much post processing was allowed for this challenge, but I still chose to combine two layers of the same image, rotate the other 90 degrees, and then use "darken" layer method. I of course increased the contrasts to add some drama, and finally added frames on PicMonkey.

What I like about this method, especially when used on images of garbage, is the touch of chaos and disorganised abstractness. What looks random and mess in the first place, suddenly starts to look like intentionally composed piece of art, and eyes starts to find there patterns, symmetry and beauty, I think... =)

Best example from my garbage season collections:
Cold coffee...

And an old example of the idea I end up to use here:
Unnatural

It feels a bit anaemic and over-processed, to me. A good bricolage needs to have a quality of "thereness" I think. I like Amelia's creation, where the glass and pottery and breakage are clear and present. "These fragments I have shored against my ruins" Eliot opines in The Waste Land." The examination of the crap we leave is the examination of the soul of modern man, man in the Anthropocene. I know, I know, I could be spouting pretentious drivel. It has been known.
