125 years ago there was a restaurant on the small "island" on the left, and the restaurant had this little pool with two seals in it. Their names were Matti and Maija. They probably were supposed to be served on the plate in the end, but Maija escaped and managed to get into the lake downstream, where Matti followed her soon after. They were originally from the sea, and the lake was not their natural habitat, so the local fishermen were afraid they would eat their fish – so they shot them. Maija got a decent burial, Matti just sort of vanished.

Yes, that is a sad story. There are now plans to build a small pedestrian bridge over that small "island" where the restaurant was.

Gosh, just like in the old days! Hopefully someone will get inspired by the bridge and rebuild the restaurant as well – but without any seals or dolphins, thank you! :-)
