EDIT: Post processing technical details. On GIMP editor (same goes with PhotoShop):

1) Duplicate the base image onto another layer.
2) Change the 'Layer mode' into 'Difference'.
3) Run 'Gaussian blur' for that duplicate layer. Be generous. On 1000 pixel wide image value 100 worked nicely.
4) If the result is too light, then try taking another duplicate of the bottom base image, move it up, and change *layer mode' for that layer into 'Soft light'.
5) Merge the layers and do your favorite magic to finalize the image.
