I wasn't sure what you and Alan were referring to as resembling marshmallows or worms but happened to notice a photo I had taken in Tasmania with those marshmallows on a distant hill and realized the connection. We don't have fields of alfalfa here in dry, overdeveloped southern California so I've been sheltered from modern agricultural practices. Sad really.
