Very interesting! Do railroads still have sleeper cars today?

Yes. Amtrak has a variety of bedroom choices available. I have a friend who tries to take at least one cross-country trip a year in a sleeper car.

What a great example, Rick! And love the rollers in her hair. : )
As a lover of trains, I've always wanted to cross this country - or Canada - by train, but so far it hasn't happened.

When I was a kid in the '50s, my mom would take us with her from Chicago to New Orleans every couple of years on this Illinois Central sleeper train to visit family. My sister and I loved those train trips. Very exciting and fun to eat in the dining car. It was a busy train, popular with businessmen traveling to and from conventions in Chicago. I recall more than once my mother receiving what I considered too friendly attention by some fellow travelers even with her two kids sitting with her. I think this photo was taken on the last trip she and my sister took on the train.
