Kitchen still-life. The strange device is an Alfa-Laval hand-cranked cream separator/churn. The wierd thing in the tub on top is a cover which fits over the conical part when in use. Milk is introduced into the top of the cover, where it flows into the spinning cone. Conical rings inside the cone cause the heavier and lighter components of the milk to separate and exit the cover via two different pipes into waiting containers.
