thanks - i find it hard to pick the contrast for on screens (as opposed to print) because screens are so subjective depending on your angle of view. glad it worked for you!

An interesting image Laura.............with lots of detail and and textures, and even a bit of rust!

Is that really holding up a major road................it all looks a bit dilapidated!
raingirl club has replied to Keith Burton club
yes, it is a major road way up there. but the whole structure isn't in as bad of shape as this makes it appear - but it is all wood! that surprised me!!

Bet they never used computers when they designed and built this. Challenge accomplished I'd say.

raingirl club has replied to HappySnapper
Indeed. The original road from the south of Portland into town had to wind its way up and around the west hills instead of going fairly straight along the river to the city because of the many large ravines along the way. This trestle goes over one of those ravines - it was built in around 1936 (at least the road was finished in 1936). And you're right, no computers, instead designed by hand and " Much of it was done by work gangs with shovel, wheel barrow, horse and dynamite."

you can see one of the two viaducts this is from here:

a fellow portland photographer posted from this area - i finally go to go explore it myself. it was surprising that this heavily trafficed 4 lane hwy still has this wooden trestle (in fact there are 2 of them along this stretch of road. glad you like it.

A good examination of ancient building material, wood, and steel plates, bolts and moss, held up by physics and bubble gum. It looks like it is holding for now but I think that it is time for your government to get to work seriously on that infrastructure bill.
raingirl club has replied to Bruce Dean (Puchinpa… club
this view makes some of the supports look small - but all of them were very large. our local old woods certainly gave their lives for this trestle! (but yes, the infrastructure needs a huge influx of funds - luckily our local bridges are getting the upgrades they need, but so much of our roadways need re-working)
