I'm sorry to see that Laura that is no way to start the new year, what did you do ? I hope that it soon improves, I hope that 2019 is a Happy year for you and a Healthy one !!!!!!!

i'm going to post this in an 'article' but wanted to answer you also - please excuse that it isn't more personal, i can only do so much typing in a day.

i've been asked what i did to injure myself. i wish i had an exciting story of partying and silliness, but no such luck. on december 24th i slipped on our wet, unkept (had been meaning to clean it) cedar wood back deck and fractured my wrist. had surgery a week later to get a plate and 2 screws to hold everything in place while it heals. that was like having the injury all over again. but i had great luck in that my neighbors were home and they are a pediatric doctor and nurse who do ski patrol, so they splinted me before taking me to the ER, and then they got me to the front of the line to get help.

i made it through partly with the help of a new song by my husband (his lyrics) and a local band called Eyelids. i kept humming it to myself and trying to remember all the words. i can't share it (it doesn't come out until next Fall - and can you believe it, the title includes the word 'Falls'), but it begins:

i've discovered my home isn't set up for lounging, but my husband is being a dear, and my cat likes that i'm on the couch to sleep with. oh, and my daughter is off school for a few weeks and is helping drive us around!

so please excuse my spotty presence here - i'm trying to keep up on my groups, but not much commenting as typing is tedious.

Crud. How frustrating. I hope you're continuing to enjoy good music, though. And maybe some more quality cat-time, too...? (My cat is always at his most affectionate when I'm nursing a cold or whatever. :D )

Good luck with the therapy. (I'd answer your question but my insurers never made learning those answers necessary, if you get my drift.)

thanks. i don't recommend this to anyone. 6-8 week recovery period, but today the pain finally seems to be slowing.

thanks so much. i've never had a fracture before - i don't recommend it. hope you are enjoying lots of wonderful snow and roasted nuts while strolling the streets (i have some odd memories of being in germany).

Oh wow Laura - that looks bad. I do hope it doesn't feel as bad as it looks. I can understand how medication does make you feel a bit woozy and not capable of fully concentrating on things. Don't you worry - just try and enjoy the New Year celebrations and take care of that arm.

It really does hurt as bad as it looks, but the pain pills keep the pain somewhat at bay. I've never broken anything before, and fracturing a wrist probably isn't the best one to start with - so many pieces in there! Even though I'm not a drinker, this year I wished I could have drunk in the new year!!! Thanks for your kind thoughts.

thanks - but i'm afraid it's a long recovery. though i am starting to be able to think a bit more and do a bit of computer stuff.

Oooh that looks and sounds very painful. Occupational therapy is where they get you to do things with your damaged limb that is a normal usage and it just gets you more mobile. At least that's what my occupational therapists did for me. When I damaged my arms, I had to do some exercises several times a day to keep the limbs lucid and it was easier as time went on. Good luck for the future - and keep off wet decks!!!!!

just got me deck cleaned yesterday - but i'm still avoiding it when wet!

thanks for the o.t. info. glad to hear it gets easier over time as it just seems to loosen a wee bit, then aggrevate it. sigh. this is forcing me to be patient, not y strong suit.
