What is the commercial need for the breakwater these days, fishing only?

It protects the harbour from silting up and shelters the ferry, freighters and small vessels until they get into more open waters.

Where do the ferries run between and what freight moves to/from there by ship?

The public are not allowed onto the breakwater, but you can fish from the shorter East Pier on the other side of the harbour entrance.

The ferries run two or three times a day to Dieppe. It is a 4 hour journey.
The outgoing freight is scrap metal. www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/26032743/in/album/1017594
Incoming is mainly locally dredged shingle.
