Monarch Saturday ! ~ Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus)10-10-2015
There were 16 beautiful Monarchs in prime condition migration through here today. Many stopped and fed all day and 6 were feeding right till dusk. They will have roosted close-by .
It never less than pure joy to see these butterflies.
I took around 150 photos and some video !

What no-one sees is this is a very rural rough 2 acres... planned gardening doesnt work at all... you just go with the wild stuff.... These False Sunflowers survive heat and drought.... I dont use ANY chemicals... I slog to just keep a little of the wild side away... I value the wildlife.. and I have increased the bird and butterfly species (48 bird species and 42 Butterfly species) by trying to husband the land responsibly.
It comes at the cost of never ever being easy... and I am getting older and the arthritis etc is worsening. I have more than I can really cope with... but... this is what pertains to be my almost sanity. Its the only way I can stay living in this country.
We have temps here in Summer up to 120F (49 to 50C) .. winters arent bad... lowest I have seen is -15F (-27C)... but we have damaging ice storms.... and then this is also Tornado Alley.
What I show here ... are the compensations.....
