The Turkey 'clean up crew'!

The Turkey 'clean up crew'!
The flock of wild Turkeys is about 30 strong. In the Spring they bring their chicks to feed as well. This day there was about 10-12 of them. Sadly we have too many gung ho hunters in these parts.. but NOT on my land !

EXPLORED !

Fred Fouarge, Annalia S., Janet Brien, tiabunna and 46 other people have particularly liked this photo

Great shot Pam. Detail is ace. Can't help but think of Christmas, though as there's only the two of us we usually have a duck to avoid waste.

Beautiful shot of a beautiful bird. Hadn't seen any turkey on my land for several years, thought the coyotes must have done them in. Then I put out a wildlife camera a month ago and the first animals it caught were turkeys. Would love to be able to entice them to get close enough to take a decent photo. What do you feed them?
Pam J club has replied to Ceropegia club
Thankyou Ceropegia !

I call them the Clean Up Crew cos they eat the birdseed. I get through about 100 lbs of seed a month(plus squirrel food with corn and nuts .. and I add more black sunflower seed). What isnt eaten from the 13 or so feeders gets scattered.. and that is what the Crows and Turkeys and ground feeders come for..... and the raccoons feed anywhere !

I am permanently broke.. I dont buy fancy clothes and shoes etc... I cant afford to fly Home ! ... Just about all the little spare goes on the wild animals and birds. Its what keeps me nearly sane here !

Wow! I sometimes see turkeys when I go back to visit Kentucky, but I rarely am able to get close to them. I followed a group of them for a while through the woods at Mammoth Cave National Park. They ignored me until I got about 30 yards away, and then they panicked, so I stayed back and watched them a while.

If you think about it.... its no wonder they are so paranoid ! Everything but everything seems to wants to eat of kill them in some way !!

I have never seen such a magnificent turkey. Thank you for sharing Pam.
I'm no veggie because I like bacon too much, but I would rather have beans on toast than something a majestic as this.

Thankyoiu Neil !

I am no veggie either... but I wont have anything on my land hurt. I buy stuff that has been responsibly raised and cared for and has had a decent life. I am not squeamish.. I have killed gutted and plucked much in my life ... !!! BUT... each has to have their "line in the sand" and I have mine.

Great shot of this Turkey. Yes I agree with you regarding "trophy kills" I really cant understand people who this killing animals for sport is morally acceptable.

What a gorgeous tom! Aren't we so very lucky that turkeys visit both of us!

We also have avid hunters and they sneak onto our property to kill turkeys that live here...it makes us completely INSANE when we find the dead carcasses with the trophy feathers cut off and the rest left to rot. *seethe* But I've only seen this happen once, thankfully.

Your picture is marvelous, Pam, love the colors so much!!
