Now about using square: I can't force myself to crop scans of my negatives, but I have no problem with cropping digital frames. Isn't it weird? ;)

We all have our own 'thing', Marta. I can't crop from a square, but I can easily crop a square from a rectangle. However, it is said that Ansel Adams preferred the square, and would easily crop from that .. vertical or horizontal. Because he didn't like to have to turn the camera.

OK, the square addiction origins seem rather obvious.
For Ansel Adams it was a Kodak Brownie Box camera. Am I right about it?
For me (not that I dare compare to The Master) it was a Polish WZFO Start 6x6 TLR camera.
As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.
Cropping habits are different. Or maybe not so much.
When I was a kid negatives were pricey (in Poland). One learned to use and value every fraction of a square inch of a frame.
Digital technology allows for more carelessness ;)

You said that well, Marta, I agree. This reminds me how the 'kids' born after the transition to digital photography, go back and use film. The often say how much film allows them to fill the frame with more care.

A cool picture that makes me stop and think about what I'm looking at. The fence to keep people from getting closer/wrecking/taking things...the fact of this place's age and how the buildings are falling down. The cat who sits in blissful ignorance. Your composition and excellent choice of b/w format. I appreciate the thoughts that roll around in my head from what I see...thank you!
