Het Fraueninsel - een juweeltje in de Chiemsee

De naam is afgeleid van het oudste nonnenklooster van Duitsland, gesticht in 782 door de Beierse hertog Tassilo III. De eerste bij naam bekende abdis was de zalige Irmengard (gestorven in 866), wiens beenderen in het klooster worden vereerd. In het klooster wonen de benedictijner nonnen van Frauenwörth.
