Marble Head of Claudia Octavia
Kourion, Cyprus, Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates
ca. AD 54-76/77

#54-28-21

Claudia was Nero’s first wife. She was divorced and then either murdered or driven to suicide by her husband. She retained her popularity with the Roman people and retained divine honors at Olympia. Her statue there was displayed wearing Hera’s diadem.
