Pond Life

Pond Life
If I'm not mistaken this shows a pair of Toads (the smaller one is the male) in a mating embrace.

Taken in the Southsea Rock Gardens. Not one of my finest efforts, but in my defence, I was balanced on one knee on the slippery edge of a pond, in the rain! I'm happy with it as a "record" shot.

Marginally better viewed large.

Nouchetdu38, Jean Paul Capdeville, Jörg, Gudrun and 19 other people have particularly liked this photo

WHAT A GREAT SHOT, KEITH!! As you say, it's perhaps not artistically the finest but WHO CARES?! Look at what you captured?! I have never seen such a sight, you lucky stinker! And I can totally picture your precarious position and balancing act--it can be a very wobbly affair, can't it! I have found myself losing the battle and flopping backwards to land on my backside, sometimes with a fine soaking ack! :D But the camera remains aloft! :D Usually it's a knee down in front or I'll fall to the side but usually it's just loss of balance enough to create a madly blurry picture! :D Anyway, well done...it's so amazing to see the difference between genders!

You did well to spot them Keith. They have superb camouflage! If the smaller is the male, I am wondering.....maybe I should look it up ;-) Such an interesting shot and thank you for sharing. All the signs have gone up in Ashmore around the pond to be careful of the Toads. Literally hundreds at a time make their way to the pond!

A little out of balance here, in more ways that one Keith :) Nature quite often defines the female species as the bigger tougher sex - just check up on spiders and ants. A great find and catch here. Well done.

Keep safe. Herb

At least the female doesn't eat the male afterwards Herb..........unlike some other species!

Looks like the male is determined but I would guess he's got his positioning all wrong ... and she just looks tolerably fed up!

Thanks Gudrun.

I try and avoid getting too low nowadays...........but I had little choice here. I should have taken my bean bag with me to rest the camera on.

Ein Foto bei vollem Körpereinsatz ;-)
Das Ergebnis kann sich sehen lassen. Es zeigt die Kröten gut getarnt in ihrer natürlichen Umgebung.
