That's a great guess, Marie-claire, and we used to have 7 big koi in our pond until the otters came for a visit. :(

I was thinking frog when I saw this. I went for a walk this week and saw no frogs on or near the lilies which is why I thought of this.

No flash. I shot this around 5:30 in the evening while it was still quite light. I raised the shadows a bit in p.p.so you could see the lily pads. The pond is dyed black.
