Hilla Becher is dead

Bernd Becher died eight years ago. He and his wife Hilla made
beautiful photos together for fifty years.
There are at least a half dozen ways that this picture is nothing like
a Becher picture. But for years I have often tried to make pictures
like the Bechers and I never get closer than this. They would have
used a large format negative. They would have used real film. They
would have been really close, not a kilometer away. They would not
grab shots but instead they worked slowly, patiently to make a
picture. They would have had a simpler sky and almost no foreground.
They would have had details, not impressions of buildings. And so
on.
But, even with all its not-the-sames, now that Hilla, too, is dead, I
thought I would post this as a token of respect.
If you are interested the Guardian had a nice story on her death:
