Processional float (detail) at Ubeda

Processional float (detail) at Ubeda
Basílica de Santa Maria de los Reales Alcázares de Úbeda, Andalucia.
Holy Week sees its most glamorous celebrations in the region of Andalusia. Processions of penitents carry magnificent "Pasos" or floats with sculptures that depict different scenes from the Chrisitian writings related to the Passion of Christ or the Sorrows of Virgin Mary. Usually, the "pasos" are accompanied by Marching bands performing "Marchas procesionales" a specific type of composition devoted to the images.

Thanks! A lot of work and organisation had gone into the processions which was impressive. What impressed me the most about the processions in Ubeda and Baeza however was the crowds of onlookers - families out together, the community out together, all friendly and cheerful; and the families going on to eat together as families in the cafes and restaurants afterwards.
