Little Egypt

Little Egypt
This is why my area of Southern Illinois is called "Little Egypt." There are several towns here that are named after real places in the Egypt, such as Cairo, Karnak, Thebes, Metropolis and Goshen, etc. There is also architectural nods in the building and decorations of places around the area - such as this doorway at the Marion, Illinois Veterans Hospital. The whole hospital is made to look like an ancient Egyptian structure on the inside.

Does the Egyptian architecture of death have any influence? Are there any pyramids?

There is the famous Monks Mound, in Cahokia, Illinois, which is the largest Pre-Columbian earthwork in the Americas and the largest pyramid north of Mesoamerica. And there is a pyramid-shaped tomb in front of Saluki Stadium in Carbondale, Illinois.
