The Old Homestead

The Old Homestead
This old cabin used to sit about a mile or so from my house. It was torn down recently, so I'm glad I got this shot of it. It was hidden for decades when people built a house around it and the house sat empty for a long time. Nobody remembered that the cabin was still there until they tore down the old house from around it.

Great find and photo! Did they move it, or just destroy it? I use to know a guy who spent his time rebuilding these cabins for people. People who lived in log cabins were looked down on and as a result people would build around them or cover them with siding. Many were preserved that way.

No, they just bulldozed it out of existence. I drove out to rephotograph it one day and the field was flat with no sign of the cabin.
