The Church in the Fields-, (pip)

The Church in the Fields-, (pip)
The harvest is in but the festival will have to be elsewhere, this is Buittle Parish church lit by late evening sun.

The long history of this ‘Church in the Fields’, going back via the adjacent ruined building to the royal chapel of C13th King John Balliol, lends atmosphere to this lovely rural church. Which was originally Roman Catholic and later became Church of Scotland.
The church closed in 2010 and is now up for sale,

(Pip) The roofless shell of the most intact medieval parish church in the region

I prefer the image large.

Maria Lovasz, Traktor 49, Leo W, Nouchetdu38 and 45 other people have particularly liked this photo

Bien presentada la iglesia rural de Campos en ruinas. Supongo que estará catalogada como valor histórico a mantener, parece que fue mayor que la nueva.

A very smart church with clean lines Roger. I like the lady walking through the field, maybe Carol? Your PiP is also beautiful and perfectly placed within the main shot.

I love the way the church is surrounded by such a large, lovely golden field and yet is so clearly silhouetted against the deep blue sky. So perfect.
What does a church like that go for? I can't imagine.

Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Deborah Lundbech club
Many thanks Deborah, not as much as one would imagine I suspect because of conversion costs and the providing off or upgrading of mains services, plus the fact that has been on the market a while indicates difficult covenants.

A terrific shot Roger. Love the lines in the newly harvested field and the new church right next to the ruins of the old one.

The 'person' in the field gives a lovely feeling of wide open space. I love it

Nice comments, thank you, but I fear that person in the field has already been identified ;-))

What a beautiful church................and it looks to be in really nice condition (from the outside at Least). Such a shame is it closed. It looks magnificent against the sky and I like the lines in the field that can still be seen from the harvesting. The colours in the landscape are lovely..........especially the hi-vis cardigan :-))

A beautiful set of ruins in the PiP, which also look beautiful in the sunshine.

Definitely worth viewing large!

Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Keith Burton club
Thank you, Keith, close up also reveals that it's in good condition and still weather tight but, I guess dwindling congregations caused its closure, the views from the church are far-reaching and beautiful, the cardigan has featured in many images ;-))

Superb Roger! Once again your composition is spot on and the light perfect. I like the faint tracks of the farm machinery leading the eye into the scene and the figure emphasising the the scale of the view.
