Leverburgh,

Leverburgh,
The Shannon class lifeboat "RNLB Stella and Humfrey Berkeley " which arrived on station at Leverburgh, Isle of Harris in 2018 however operations were suspended in November 2019 due to lack of crew members, this boat has now been replaced with an Atlantic 85 inshore boat, "John and Louisa Fisher" (BBC and RNLI web pages) I assume13-25 is now in the reserve fleet,

Thank you Andy, I guess your home county has many of these, and well remember the brave souls who lost lives in the service.

A friend of my family in Cornwall knew one of the Penlee heroes (I didn't know him personally) from Mousehole pretty well and were quite cut up at the time as you can imagine.

Any life lost is a tragedy but so many families suffered and the village must have been traumatised

Der Dienst auf einem Rettungsboot ist ein harter Job und fordert großen Mut bei Sturm hinaus aufs Meer zu fahren

It seems well suited to its business.
Pity she could not stay there but the new one will do, I hope.

Thank you Jose, Volunteering is time consuming and they have to available 24 hrs a day which is a big commitment.

A very well taken image of this lovely looking lifeboat. Such a shame that it's not being fully utilised. As a former sailor I've always had a great respect for the RNLI and I think it's disgraceful that what is, in fact, an emergency service has to rely on contributions from the public to operate. It should be properly by the government (sorry - rant over)!

Thank you Keith I do tend to agree but also have concerns on how money is spent, they closed our local lifeboat station, so with help from Annika Rice local people formed an independent boat and hovercraft station which went on to save a number of lives at that point the RNLI built a new station and provided two inshore boats, money that could have been saved by not closing it in the first place, (my rant) sorry

This seems to me to be an extremely well and purposefully designed lifeboat. I also volunteered at our lakes for a few years in this service...

Many thanks Udo, all weather self righting boats built for the harshest conditions.
