On the River Wensum at Norwich

On the River Wensum at Norwich
So here I am on the Foundry Bridge at the foot of Prince of Wales Road in Norwich, eh, the one that crosses to Thorpe Road and the train station, and I'm thinking I'll get some photos of boats passing under the bridge. And here comes a houseboat, with a girl in the front hatch looking straight ahead, rapt in the scenery! What an opportunity! So as the boat approaches I line up the shot, but when the boat passes underneath me I don't see the top of her head but her looking back up at me. So I take that shot -- it's not like I was gonna get 'em to come back, eh, so I could get the other shot.

Anyway, I hope someone that observant has taken up photography by now.

Ecobird, kiiti, Ulrich John, neira-Dan and 19 other people have particularly liked this photo

A perfectly timed shot John...............even if it was somewhat accidental..!! The girl looks quite happy to have had her photo taken!

I reckon she spotted you and your camera first...........and decided to pose for you :-)) I guess we'll never know!

Thanks, Keith. One of the things I like about photography is that you never really know. She looks as if she was posing, but her look could have been entirely accidental. Or maybe it was a curious look. Or maybe she knew better than I did what a good photograph is. That's happened to me before -- I was taking a photo of a house here years ago and a couple walking along the street walked into the shot and turned and looked at the house, making the shot far better. They could well have been photographers.

Which could be a look of bemusement, I think, Leon. "Why is that old guy hanging over the bridge with a camera?" As I mentioned to Keith, you never really know about a photograph.

Thanks, Sarah. I suppose I should check if my passport's still valid. I think I have a couple of years left. More importantly I've got £10 or so on my Oyster card that I don't want Transport for London to inherit.

John this is a delightful image. The young girl beautifully framed by the hatch and that wonderful smile as she looks up ireally makes the shot. Nicely timed and captured
