Uh ... California is fine at the moment, all things considered. If you are talking about the infamous freaky heatwave, that was way up north, in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia! 40+ degrees Celcius on the northern Pacific coast? Now that's Old Testament heat for you.
Thankfully, that too has abated, or so I hear. Weather in Santa Rosa has been lovely, though it will get a bit warmer between now and the weekend. Our new place has fans and is well insulated. We'll be fine.

The BBC had a map that showed you guys suffering under the heat. You were in the red part of the map while we were in the orange. That's where I got the idea you were in the bubble.

My new apartment just never gets hot. An unexpected benefit. In the summer the sun's too high to fill most of my living-room windows; simple window management will keep the place cool.
