Building MaRS
The West Tower of MaRS going up in Toronto on September 3, 2011.

MaRS is a not-for-profit corporation that markets publicly funded medical research. The name originally had no meaning, then was said to mean "Medical and Related Services", and then went back to having no meaning when non-medical organizations began participating.

It always amazes me how anyone can make sense out of these huge building projects...........it looks completely chaotic to the average person.

I agree with Jean about the cranes..............I'm always surprised that they don't topple over. I certainly wouldn't like to work up there in one!

Thanks, Keith. The complexity of these projects may explain the growth in modular construction. In Canada this was encouraged by the need to build in the oilfields in Northern Alberta, where there was no gravel. So they built modules in the south and took them north. They built two thirty-five-storey buildings near where I used to live in Toronto in modules. You'd see multiple-storey units being hoisted into place.
