Clever shot John.................I think Sarah P's comments sum it up better than I could.

I suspect all those young men would be appalled if anyone suggested they should wear a uniform to work..............but essentially, in their own little groups, that is what they do :-)

Thanks, John. It was the stripes that threw me - we have either stripes or walk lights, but not together.

Interesting thoughts, Sarah. I hoped people would have them. At first what I saw here was a keyhole shot -- not the correct photographic term but the name of a type of book-cover illustration. Anyway, the men form the keyhole through which you can see the woman.

Later I realized there were many ways to interpret this. Even the keyhole idea lends itself to further analysis (Foucaultians are probably revving up their male-gaze engines, for example).

I prefer to think of it as, ahem, multiconceptual. I was only aware of one concept when I took it, but as Sol LeWitt said "The artist may not necessarily understand his own art. His perception is neither better nor worse than that of others."

As Frank Zappa observed, Keith, we're all wearing uniforms and shouldn't kid ourselves. But I say who can we kid if we can't kid ourselves?

My favourite uniform item in this district is the senior executive shave. A lot of the older fellows in expensive suits look as if their faces have been polished and buffed. Maybe they wax.

I believe the correct photographic name is something like frame-within-a-frame. Keyhole is easier to remember.
