The grid pattern is like the grid on my viewfinder screen, a nice visual pun. At first glance the two men seem to be carrying the whoscene on their shoulders. And it’s like a packed wall of individual paintings, like the RA Summer Exhibition. It’s a cornucopia of signs and wonders. Very pleasing.

Thanks, Steve. Now that you mention the grid, it reminds me of the grid method of drawing and painting.-- just copy the contents of each grid onto paper or canvas ruled with a similar grid!. I hadn't noticed thast they were carrying the grid until you mentioned it. Thanks for those two insights and the comparison to the RA Summer Exhibition. It's a whole new photo to me now.

I think what attracted me first was seeing the background through a rectangular structure. Which fits with your analysis, but you have broadened my understanding of it.

That is how the cities look ! Advertisement and building ! And fast moving people ! Could be Frankfurt ! This mixture makes you picture very typical for modern times. Like the structure which results of these components. Good Morning, John !

Thank you very much, Ulrich. One development over recent years has been the decline i9n colourful advertising as a result of the proliferation o9f chains, who get people into the store through advertising. There are neighbourhoods in Toronto without chains and with colourful storefronts, though. Maybe I'll see what I can find there.

Another thing it reminds me of is those fellows who made compositions in small boxes - a stack of those.

Or those picture-block puzzles we used to play with as kids. Do they make them any more?

I suspect they do make some version of those, but I haven't seen any. Our grandkids are beyond that type of thing now.

BTW - it was Joseph Cornell - a stack of his boxes.
