Whooohooohooohooo's that sitting in my tree?

I sometimes hear the owls calling back and forth when I take Sophie out for middle-of-the-night walkies, but it usually souds like it's coming from way down the street; tonight they sounded *really* close, and just as I started to point my flashlight up there was a flutter of wings and one of them flew right over my head... This one perched on top of one of my joshua trees, the other perched in one of the trees next door, and they both stared at us until we went back inside. Once Sophie (who's a bit too big to be owl-bait, but still small enough not to take any chances) was safe behind closed doors I went back out with my camera; kind of wish I had a flash, juggling the camera and the flashlight as my fingers started to freeze was a bit of a challenge, and this was the best I could do before he lost patience and flew away...
