Preserved former Royal Blue 1299 (OTT 98) in Weymouth – 9 Aug 1984 (X845-14)

Thursday 9 August 1984 – Preserved former Royal Blue Express Services 1299 (OTT 98) seen in the doorway of the Southern National garage in Weymouth.

It is an Eastern Coachworks bodied Bristol LS6G that was new to Southern National in September 1953 and was withdrawn from Royal Blue service circa 1970. Southern National and Western National were joint owners of the famous Royal Blue name.

(This was my first experience of using a 35mm camera after years of using ‘point and click’ snapshot cameras so the quality is very poor. The camera, on loan with the option to purchase, turned out to have a shutter problem which wasn’t helpful. Since this was a not repeated family holiday the opportunity to do any better was missed).
