The parts of the plant symbolize different aspects of torment, where the tendrils represent whiplash. The crown of thorns is represented by 72 stamen filaments. The lower five stamens symbolize the five wounds of Jesus. The red spots show the drops of Christ's blood, and the round fruit the world that Jesus came to save."
