A Walk on the Quantock Hills

A Walk on the Quantock Hills
Captured at Lydeard Hill, on the Quantock Hills which became England's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). I loved the changing colours and the peaceful setting. Lydeard Hill shows on the map as being 365 metres high.

A walk on 'higher ground' with changing colours made me think of this link:-

Thank you very much Isabel. I am sorry they make you feel that way but there are a lot of walks that don't involve going into the woods, - all very open moorland and quite beautiful.

Guess it is cultural, I am from a bare landscape environment, trees are isolated because each one needs a large area to spread its roots and get enough moist/water. Dry season lasts about 6 months per year from Spring to Fall and in those months only deep water and some night dew can feed them. I am used to always see horizon, in a dense forest I feel claustrophobic… even if I find them beautiful.

Thank you Isabel. I hadn't thought about that. As you know we get more than our fair share of rainfall and take all our trees for granted really. It is interesting to read about your perspectie - always being able to see the horizon. We also used to have Portuguese neighbours and they moved over to England because the lady could not bear the heat. That is also something we don't often have to worry about.
