Great photo, Doug. They are actually Eurasian collared doves (Streptopelia decaocto), not collard doves. Native to Asia, they expanded to western Europe in the 19th century. A few captives escaped in the Bahamas in the 1970s and have since colonized almost all of North America.

I remember back in the late 60's seeing my first one of these. They were very rare in the UK back then but now they are absolutely everywhere !!!!

Great timing Doug! We have two regular collared doves visit our garden and sometimes there are three...but not for long! If we could tell them apart more easily, I could see which one won!
