Der Frühling kündigt sich an - Spring is on its way

The hazel blossom period is a real nuisance for many allergy sufferers. However, it’s quite the opposite for honeybees. Around this time, their breeding season begins, and the brood requires protein-rich food. This is provided, among other sources, by hazel pollen. For this purpose, bees collect pollen from the blooming hazelnut shrubs whenever temperatures are above freezing. They ignore the inconspicuous female flowers since they do not produce nectar. Hazel pollination is carried out by the wind!
