Waldarbeiter mit Geweih - Lumberjack with antlers

Today I was very lucky to discover an old pear tree at the edge of an oak forest, which was home to some male European stag beetles (Lucanus cervus). I took my time to take some photos. As luck would have it, I was also able to observe and photograph a rivalry fight with the loser being thrown off. The photos will appear in the next photo publication. According to the current German Red List, European stag beetles are considered highly endangered. The internet articles provide information about the biology. The last internet address can (should) be used to report stag beetle findings for scientific reasons. The notification has been made.
