Im Jahre 950 begründet ... Founded in 950 ... 2 PiPs

Die Stiftskirche St. Peter und Alexander in Aschaffenburg wurde um 950 begründet und zeigt dem Besucher die Stilelemente der Romanik, Gotik und des Barock in schöner Harmonie. Die Kirche ist auf einem Hügel gebaut und überragt die Stadt ganz deutlich. In der Kirche befindet sich eine große Zahl von Kunstwerken, von denen mich bei einem kürzlichen Besuch zwei besonders beeindruckt haben:
Zum einen das eindrucksvolle Gemälde von Matthias Grünewald "Die Beweinung Christi" (vor 1523), von dem ich im PiP 1 einen Ausschnitt zeige und das "hautnah" das Passionsgeschehen darstellt.
Lange blieb ich vor dem Epitaph (Grabdenkmal) für Albert Kirchner stehen, einem 3-jährigen Knaben, dem Sohn des bischöflichen Sekretärs, der 1541 starb. Auf dem Epitaph ist er vor einem Kruzifix betend dargestellt. Das häufige Sterben von Kindern war in dieser Zeit, in der es noch keine Antibiotika und Impfungen gab, eine bittere Realität.

The Church of St. Peter and Alexander in Aschaffenburg was founded around 950 and shows the visitor the stylistic elements of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque in beautiful harmony. The church is built on a hill and clearly towers over the city. The church contains a large number of works of art, two of which particularly impressed me on a recent visit:

I stopped for a long time in front of the epitaph (funeral monument) for Albert Kirchner, a 3-year-old boy, the son of the bishop's secretary, who died in 1541. On the epitaph he is shown praying in front of a crucifix. The frequent deaths of children was a bitter reality in this era before antibiotics and vaccinations.
