Sonne, Raureif, minus 15 °C - Sun, hoar frost, minus 15 °C

Nach nasskalten Nebeltagen sanken im Steigerwald die Temperaturen auf -15 °C. Am Morgen des 22. Januar 2016 war der Himmel wolkenlos und alle Bäume waren mit einer dicken Raureifschicht überzogen.
Im Bild ist zu sehen der Kirchturm von St. Leonhard in Bullenheim (13. J.). Die Kirche diente seit dem 16. J. nicht nur als Kultraum, sondern auch als Kirchenburg dem Schutz der Bevölkerung. Sie ist eine sogenannte Simaltankirche, die seit der Reformation von den Protestanten und Katholiken des Ortes für den Gottesdienst genutzt wird. Einige Reste der Kirchenburg (Gaden) sind erhalten.

After some dank foggy days the temperatures decreased to -15 °C. On the morning of January 22, 2016 the sky was cloudless and all the trees were covered with thick hoar frost.
In the photo you can see the church tower of St. Leonhard in Bullenheim (13th c.). The church was since the 16th century a so called fortress church ("Kirchenburg") that´s to say a particular type of church that, in addition to its religious functions it was also used by the local population as a retreat and defensive position, similar to a refuge castle. Since the Reformation it is a double church and serves as service room for protestants and catholics. Some remains of the fortified church (Gaden) are preserved.
