The South Street Seaport is a historic area in the New York City borough of Manhattan, centered where Fulton Street meets the East River, and adjacent to the Financial District. It features some of the oldest architecture in downtown Manhattan, and includes the largest concentration of restored early 19th-century commercial buildings in the city. This includes renovated original mercantile buildings, renovated sailing ships, the former Fulton Fish Market, and modern tourist malls featuring food, shopping, and nightlife. The Brooklyn Bridge is a hybrid cable-stayed/suspension bridge in New York City, spanning the East River between Manhattan Island and Brooklyn on Long Island. Opened on May 24, 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge was the first fixed crossing of the East River. It was the world's tallest skyscraper from 1913-1930 (!), when it was surpassed by 40 Wall Street and the Chrysler Building. The East River comes from the left background, the right bay is "Wallabout Bay" with the decommissioned Brooklyn Navy Yard. At the Bay are some chimneys (better in the PiP), they are gone in the meantime and belonged to the large power plant of the Consolidated Edison Company (1920s). scanned slide, Minolta X700
