Monte Fitz Roy (3405 m) is also called Cerro Chaltén and this word 'Chaltén' comes from a Tehuelche word meaning "smoking mountain", due to a cloud that usually forms around the mountain's peak. In 2000, there was no paved road to the small village El Chaltén, which is also called Argentina's Trekking Capital. - scanned slide, Minolta X700, PiP shows a color version!
I postet this photo years ago, but it fits in the new stream with new scans with geotags etc., so I reposted it.

Ruta 23 ends south of Lago del Desierto and only a horse trail and footpath continue north, along the lake, then over the mountains and on a 5h-ferry on Lago O'Higgins. After this rather long trip you would be able to finally reach the southern end of Carretera Austral in Chile, near the village of Villa O'Higgins. - scanned slide, Minolta X700
