Furkapass - Rhone glacier
Near to the Furkapass east ramp and hotel Belvedere is the mighty and beautiful Rhone glacier. I inserted a PiP with the newest Google Street Map view. The retreat is horrible. The red line, which I have drawn, marks the glacier in 1997. If you look carefully, you can identify the lateral moraine. - scanned slide, Minolta X700 - pass no. 25 - Furkapass (2436 m), Switzerland - day 5

One of the most beautiful and impressive mountain pass roads is the historic "La Tremola", the old south ramp on Gotthard pass, which was built at the begin of 19. century. 1) It's mostly original cobblestone, 2) it has fantastic serpentines, 3) there is a new road, so the old one is rather lonesome! - scanned slide, Minolta X700
