Parmelia saxatilis ?

Parmelia saxatilis ?
A fine specimen of the lichen Parmelia saxatilis I think, taken near the summit of Earl's Hill Nature Reserve, Pontesford, Shropshire.

terrific macro of this lichen! i wonder how you catch it … my camera is always confused with such textures … great job again Adrian!

Thank you Chrissie, very much appreciated. I'm guessing that you mean the auto focus gets confused on your camera when doing macro, if that is the case then manual focus is the answer. Manual focus is the usual method for most macro shooters, you set a magnification to suit your subject and then move the camera back and forth slightly to get focus on the important part of your subject. It takes a little practice but becomes easy after a while. If you use a tripod a focussing rail can be a great help for static subjects by allowing very precise adjustments.
