Similar to another displayed in the Sea Museum (already published a week ago), this boat is to be worn and carried, by pulling up to the shoulders those belts in the middle. Several boats of these can be seen defiling on the streets during St. John festivities.
This one is displayed inside Mindelo Cultural Centre (former Customs), at Amílcar Cabral Avenue, in São Vicente Island's capital, Cape Verde.

This museum occupies part of the ground-floor of the People's Palace, at Mindelo, São Vicente Island, Cape Verde. Unlike the rest of the exhibitions in the palace, with no photos allowed and requiring paid entrance, the access to this museum is free and photos are allowed.
You can see there many photos, many covers of Cesária Évora's records, many newspaper clippings about her and her shows, a lot of show posters, many personal belongings and the dresses she used in her shows. In this photo you can barely see the dress used in 1998 in a concert at Cameroon and, in the bottom, the one used in 2002 on a concert at Chelyabinsk, Russia. The narrow gangway makes difficult a fair perspective; a closer approach would imply unwelcome reflections on the glass.

It stands at Baltazar Lopes da Silva Avenue, Mindelo, São Vicente Island, Cape Verde. This colonial building was meant to be the Governor's house and made between 1858 and 1874 with a single floor; it was decided to add another floor, which was concluded in 1934. After the independence, in 1975, it was renamed as People's Palace and works were made to overcome its decay. Law courts were installed here until 2008, when a specific building for them was concluded. New works were achieved in 2009/2010 to adapt it as museum and art exhibitions centre, and it functions now within such purposes.

Actually it's a boat to wear and carry in parades: the carrier should introduce his legs through that square hole in the middle and pull those belts up to his shoulders, thus carrying the boat as he defiled.
