Quebrada de Palala (PiP)
Tupiza (2850m) in SW Bolivia has a pleasant climate and is surrounded by dramatic canyons with eroded red rock pillars. Quebrada de Palala is one of them, it's usually dry except in the rainy season when it carries a tributary to Tupiza river.

Tupiza (2850m) in SW Bolivien hat ein angenehmes Klima und ist von dramatischen Canyons mit erodierten roten Felsnadeln umgeben. Die Quebrada de Palala ist einer davon, der die meiste Zeit trocken ist, aber in der Regenzeit einen Nebenfluss zum Rio Tupiza führt.

Thank you so much, Rosa! Sadly the PiP was a victim of my old camera and lens and is only fit to be seen in small size.I didn't quite manage to get rid of the very bad chromatic aberrations and the flare.

Besten Dank, Volker! Das ist ein Konglomeratgestein, Ablagerungen aus Flussbetten, die dann durch den Subduktionsprozess gekippt wurden. Die Erosion kommt durch die heftigen Regengüsse in der Regenzeit zustande.

From the thumbnail, I first assumed I was looking at termite mounds......then when I opened the image I saw how big they really were :-))

These rocks formations are amazing............I love the colour and textures. I wonder how many millions of years it took to erode them into these fantastic shapes?

Thank you so much, Keith! The geology is complex and spectacular! Judging by the size of the rivers during the dry season and the actual size of the river beds there must be a lot of water in the rainy time! I guess it still took a long time to erode all this.

Dieses rote Gestein hat mich auch im Bryce Canyon in den USA sehr gefallen! Ist bei uns halt völlig unbekannt; ausser vielleicht in Roussillon, Südfrankreich.

Dank dir, poly! Du wirst lachen, diese Quebrada nennt man den bolivianischen Bryce Canyon;-) Bei uns sieht man ein ähnliches, aber viel matteres Rot teilweise im Nordschwarzwald und in der Pfalz, aber da ist es schnöder Buntsandstein und nicht so schön erodiert.
