Valletta Balconies

I think I may have walked along this street. Malta took a terrible beating during the war, and some parts of it haven't fully recovered. We went in October about 3 years ago, and I found it far too hot.

Thanks a lot, Amelia! Yes, the Maltese had a very hard time of the war, spending their days in underground tunnels and nearly starving... If the catacombs in Rabat are anything to go by, it must have been very damp underground.
In April 16 it was also unseasonably hot and humid whereas on my first visit April was really nice.

I really like these weather beaten and tired looking balconies.............and I also like the colour and tones of the stonework. The light is quite lovely too.

To be honest they've been like this for a long time............this is how I remember them from the early 70s.

Wow Gudrun, what an impressive image ... how beautiful they must have been prior to the war. So many stories they could tell. Makes me think how comfortable those balconies must have been in cool weather, sitting with a glass of wine and watching the world go by.

Thank you so much, Chris! The balconies are very typical for Malta but I'm not sure how comfortable they are, they aren't very deep.The climate is hot and often very humid, winters are said to be uncomfortably damp and chilly, many people don't have proper heating.

Tolle Ansicht - aber da muss man einiges tun, wenn man sich da was kauft und Parkplätze gibts wohl auch ned viel. Dafür hams ein interessantes Restaurant in der Nachbarschaft "The Thirsty Lawyer" ;-D

Danke vielmals, Dida! Wer weiß, wie's dort heute aussieht, vielleicht schon saniert und gentrifiziert, Valletta war ja Kulturhauptstadt und davor wurde viel gemacht, nur waren sie bei meinem Besuch noch nicht hierher vorgedrungen. An den "Thirsty Lawyer" kann ich mich nicht erinnern;-)
Mit Parkplätzen ist es in der Stadt überall schwierig, vor den Toren ist ein riesiger Parkplatz und Touristen dürfen nur zu Fuß rein.

Das Restaurant hab ich auf der Map bei deiner Platzierung entdeckt - scheint aber jetzt woanders zu sein: www.thethirstylawyer.com , wobei die Straßenbezeichnungen unterschiedlich sind!

Parkplätze und Altstadt is immer ein Problem - gerade wo auch noch viele Touris unterwegs sind.
