Schillerdenkmal und Stiftskirche (PiP)

Saturday Self Challenge: History
Statue of poet Friedrich Schiller by Thorvaldsen (1839) in front of Stiftskirche.
Remains of a small 10th or 11th century Romanesque church were found where Gothic Stiftskirche now stands. Typically for gothic churches the original 14th century building was enlarged and altered over the centuries. In 1944 the church was destroyed by allied bombs and outwardly reconstructed in 1950 though the interiour was kept relatively plain and austere.
