I'm looking to upgrade my Canon Powershot SX210 IS. A compact, of course, but that's all I want: something easy to carry, unobtrusive and handy. The choice is bewildering. Any advice?

I've got the Canon SX120 IS which I bought on eBay and I've had some good photographs from it. I like the size of it for carrying in a pocket, but it's nowhere near as versatile and usable as a proper SLR. If I wanted another compact camera, after what I've read in 'Amateur Photographer' I would start the search at the Fujifilm range - the X-Pro 1, or the discontinued X-100 maybe. But really, I'm not the person to ask for directions, because 'I wouldn't start from here' in compact territory.

Thanks LC, that's really helpful and gets my thinking moving. Next stop John Lewis to get a good hands-on look and some face-to-face advice.
