Canon EF 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 Lens
Folder: Lenses
An old lens from Canon's film camera days. It has its origins in the FD mount. The optical scheme was translated across to the EOS system in 1987 and remained in production until 1994. It has a trombone zooming action. On a crop sensor camera the field of view goes from 55mm to 170mm. The fashion photographer Erik Madigan Heck favours this lens, which I discovered after buying one. Mine fell apart…

Photographed with a Canon EF 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 trombone lens on a Canon EOS 30D. This lens was amongst the early optics when Canon abandoned the FD line and introduced the EOS cameras. It was in production from 1987 to 1994, although its optical formula is pretty much identical to the FD 35-105mm which preceded it. It is a nice lens but it has to be said that auto focus is slow and noisy. Being 30 years of age doesn't help much either.
Shot in dim light, no flash. Lens at 105mm, camera at 1600 ISO. 1/125th at f4.5 in manual mode. Processed in Lightroom. A Limbo Lockdown Production™.
A Chance Meeting with a Cat

Photographed with a Canon EF 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 lens on a Canon EOS 30D camera. Lens at 35mm, as wide as it will go, but that is equivalent to 55mm on a full frame camera. The cat was most obliging but being unaware of its love of the camera I shot hurriedly with the settings left from the previous use: 1/1000th shutter; f/8 aperture; 800 ISO. Whereas none of those would have been my unhurried choice, they suited the cat well enough. The bokeh is not so good, but it's often that way with a slow zoom lens anyway.

Photographed with a Canon EF 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 lens on a Canon EOS 30D camera. This lens was amongst the first of the new Canon EF mount and precedes the digital technology. However, it works well enough on my £69 EOS 30D. I love making pictures with old kit. The latest tech might be better, but by what margin?
f/8, 1/500th, 800 ISO. Going for sharpness at the expense of noise. Not that 800 ISO is particularly bad on a 30D anyway.
